Are you losing sleep because the future looks bleak?
If so, I understand your predicament and I have this insight for you. You are not alone.

I originally wrote this blog post about my feelings at this stage of the election process. I wrote about the seemingly broken system and the influence of money in politics. Of course, I gave my personal opinion about the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision and the impact on each candidate. I guess that I was venting. Then I realized that I would be getting unhappy responses from people who I love and appreciate. These days, more than ever before, people are polarized on so many issues that they become vulnerable to the most powerful political rhetoric. I don’t want to get in the middle of those conversations. So, who deserves my support? Is it the candidate that tells me what I want to hear today? Maybe. Maybe not. This is going to be an interesting year.

I decided to change course and tell you that I empathize with your situation and let you know that I have absolutely no recommendation for the upcoming elections. Well, I do still appreciate that I can vote and so I do vote, but that is as far as I am willing to go right now. By the way, if you are one of those people who does not vote for one reason or another, please do not tell me about your reasons. I believe that I have heard all or most of those reasons and they have not changed my decision to vote. In addition, I believe that our involvement in the political process on some level is our civic duty. We can’t complain about everything and not do anything to change the system. Now my moment of honesty: I did not run for any political office this year or directly engage in the process outside of voting. I know that I should do more. I will.

So, having said very little about the elections or the process, I want to stress that I care about you and that whatever you decide, I wish you a wonderful life. I know that I have limited influence in my little world, but I want that influence to be positive. Therefore, I send you my best wishes and hope that this election year is not overwhelming for you. I will continue to do my best to be a good leader, follower, spouse, parent, and friend to people every day. I hope you do the same.

Warmest Regards,

Lee
